A couple of days ago my son asked me to help him with his toy he was setting up on the floor, as I did my back went out. I was so upset, all I wanted was to play with my son. My mind started spinning into sadness. This time I tried something different.
I opened up my Insight Timer App and found a meditation for pain. When it was done, I was still in pain... But I shifted from feeling sorry for myself to feeling grateful for having two amazing kids, for not being worse off physically, for the things I’m able to do even when in pain. And most importantly to knowing this is temporary and I’ll feel better soon!
And the best thing, the pain only lasted two days instead of the two weeks it normally lasts!
Insight timer is an amazing app with tons of free content. It has so many different types of meditations, ones for emotional healing, anxiety, pain, sleep, visualization and so many others. I use it every day for a sleep meditation for my daughter who has trouble settling to sleep. Now I will use it every day for myself as well.
