I’m now officially half way through the Food Matters Nutrition Certification Program! This last module was all about gut health, quite eye opening stuff that has inspired me to make a few changes. I’m going to say goodbye to my good friend gluten, celiac runs in my family so it really makes sense that I make this change. I’m also going to stop eating sugar, other then a bit of maple syrup and honey.
I already don’t consume any dairy or alcohol so thankfully I don’t have to change that as well. I’ll be experimenting with new recipes, products and ingredients and share them as often as I can!
Other things I’ll be doing to help my digestive system include;
HOME MADE BONE BROTH, there‘s a big pot simmering away on the stove right now!
HERBAL TEAS
INCREASING OMEGA 3 - FLAX, HEMP, CHIA AND WALNUTS
TURMERIC
FERMENTED FOODS
One thing that stuck out to me is retrograde starch, which happens when you cook and then cool foods such as rice, potato and sweet potato. Apparently they don’t break down into later in your digestive system which feeds the good bacteria. I could really go for some healthy potato salad, mmmm!
I also made a big batch of peanut sauce for 3 different meals this week!
Next up will be a salted caramel energy bite recipe!
